- Harriet was christened in Whitchurch, Hampshire on Feb. 3, 1811. Robert died in a cholera epidemic in 1849. Charles and Harriet arrived in New York, NY aboard the 'Amazon' on July 20, 1863 from London, Eng. Possibly her son William Major was with them. After they arrived in New York, they were herded into box cars and went west until they were able to meet a wagon train of Mormons and continue on to Salt Lake City. They both left the Anglican Church and joined the Mormons. Her third husband Samuel had been previously married to Sarah Dilley in 1852 in England and they had five children. After his divorce from Harriet, he remarried Rachel Taylor in 1968 and they had nine children.
